It’s a tough decision for an artist to make – on one hand you love your art and like to make it available to people, on the other hand, you have bills to pay. So you take a risk that the people who came to see your artwork for free will continue to come to JABComix and will pay for the privilege.
There are some nice previews of what is inside the member’s area of JAB Comix. These are all adult comics, some of them pencil sketches (black and white) and others are in color. The quality is nice, but keep in mind that they are drawings and so the quality can vary a little bit. I don’t find that this detracts from the enjoyment because I appreciate that this is someone’s artwork, but I suppose some could be put off if they’re seeking the kind of digitized perfection that we’re used to these days.
JAB Comix - Farm Lessons
Inside JAB Comix there are more color works and more sketches. Most of the stories are 3-4 pages in length. Some of the shorter stories fit together is a series. There is a series called “Farm Lessons” that you can view several of the first stories and then (cleverly, once you’re hooked!) you get to read the rest when you become a member. There is a nice forum area and a chat area where you can chat with other members, artists and even JAB himself.
One of the very cool features of JAB Comix(at least for an aspiring artist) is a really nice drawing tutorial section. I spent quite a while on that. Another feature is the “friends” tab which has links to the work of several other artists. Some of it focused on some younger cartoon characters and it didn’t sit well with me, personally, but I am sure there are quite a few people who will really dig it.
There are some membership options on JAB Comix. You can go with a one time charge of $14.05 for 30 days membership (non-recurring) or you can opt to do a monthly charge of $14.59 (and this will rebill automatically every 30 days until you cancel) or you can go for $39.95 for a three month membership (which also rebills). There are not any hidden checkboxes that sign you up for anything more, but I advise you to always read the fine print for your own protection.
If you’re looking for anime or hentai, JABComix isn’t your site. If you’re looking for classic adult comics, JAB Comix is a really nice site that got into my skin and it’ll stay there.
